Deputy Chancellor, Vice Chairman, members of Macquarie University, and Tsinghua University, fellow graduates and guests

Good evening!

It is such an honor to speak on behalf of all the graduating students.

When I was working the other day, a colleague of mine noticed that I had put a red circle around today on my calendar. He asked me “What is special about that Wednesday?” And feeling very proud, I told him “That day marks the beginning of a new stage of my life.”

For all of us graduating students here, today is a really special day we have been looking forward to since we decided to take this program. I think I can say this on behalf of all my classmates that when we finally have the right to add MAppFin behind our names, all the pains and struggles we have had during the past two years are worthwhile.

It is not about the title itself though. It is all about what this title represents.

First of all, this title represents the leading postgraduate financial education we have received.

As the world’s largest applied finance postgraduate degree, Macquarie’s Master of Applied Finance program is taught by experts with substantial industry experience as well as extensive academic qualifications.

These are facts we have all known. However, having gone through the program myself, I found it an even more interesting story. I am impressed by how the lecturers can devise entertaining methods to explain complex finance concepts so that students like me who had little finance background before can understand the most up-to-date finance theories and practices. I am also impressed by the way the lecturers interact with us. We can even expect a question put on the online forum late at night to be answered within minutes.

We have all heard so much about how good this program is. But, to me, it is our lecturers’ devotion, professionalism and knowledge that make this program unique and superior.

For this reason, on behalf of all the graduating students, I would like to sincerely thank all our lecturers who guided us throughout this wonderful journey. Meanwhile, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Tsinghua and Macquarie for bringing this program into China so that we can receive world level finance education right at home.

Secondly, this title represents the hard work we have put in and the skills we have thus developed.

No pains no gains. It is all because of the struggles we have had during the past two years that we can be so proud of ourselves today. It is not easy to study finance part time while working full time. The quality of this program means that we really need to devote time and energy to meet the requirements of all the courses.

We cannot do this without the support of our families, which I would like to take this opportunity to say “thank you”. Thank you for your understanding and support throughout our study. Also of great help is the support from our classmates. The debates and discussions we have had, as well as the parties and outings, helped make this study easier and more joyful. While we have developed our skills during this process, we have also developed friendship with each other by struggling together. This friendship is surely going to be a treasure of our lives. So, to all my classmates, I would like to wish you the best of luck for all your endeavors

I do not expect myself to be an expert in finance with this qualification, but what I can be pretty sure is that I now have a much better understanding of finance. This is going to affect my work, my life and every decision I will make for the rest of my life. This may not sound like a big deal. However, I am only one out of hundreds of graduates from Macquarie’s Master of Applied Finance program. We are all over the finance sector. We are all over China. Every one of us is and will always make our informed decisions based on what we have learnt here. In this regard, this program has undoubtedly contributed to the development of China’s finance industry. And I am sure it will continue to make its unique contribution in the future. Only what will be different is that it is going to play a much bigger role as more and more graduates from this program will devote themselves to the development of China’s finance industry.
That’s all I want to say here. Thank you!
